Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Scientific and Technological Forum

On June 17th, 2019, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Scientific and Technological Forum, sponsored by Bureau of Academic Divisions, CAS and Institute of Physics, CAS, was held in Song Shan Lake Materials Laboratory (hereinafter abbreviated as SLAB). The topic of this forum is “Artificial Intelligence and Materials Science”.

Attendants to this forum include: Zhao Zhongxian the director of SLAB academic committee and academician of CAS; Gu Binglin the former president of Tsinghua University and academician of CAS; Lu Jian deputy president of City University of Hong Kong and academician of CNRS; Wang Enge the president of SLAB and academician of CAS; Wang Weihua the director of SLAB and academician of CAS; Xu Hongxing the dean of School of Physics and Technology in Wuhan University and academician of CAS; Yu Lu the academician of CAS; and other experts and scholars.

In the opening speech, the academician of CAS, Zhao Zhongxian introduced this forum’s background and purpose, hoping to provide strategic consultancy to future industrial distribution in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and continuous innovative development in related field of companies, research institutions and even country via discussing the opportunity and challenge in AI and materials science.

During the subsequent communication, experts addressed and discussed key agendas about solving the core theoretical and technical problems in related fields, boosting industry-college-institute combination, driving achievement conversion and deepening technology and innovation cooperation in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao area. Academicians and experts considered AI in materials field has enormous potential and power if these two combine which will promote the evolution of materials genome engineering. Besides, AI is the core of the material gene engineering while materials science is the hardware foundation of AI hence the key to further developing and expanding AI is enhancing researches in materials science.
